Royals Advance to State After Strong Showing at Lafayette Jefferson Regional

The Hamilton Southeastern Royals Boys Track & Field team delivered another outstanding performance at the IHSAA Regional Championships held at Lafayette Jefferson, highlighted by event victories, state qualifiers, and gritty finishes across the board. The Royals placed numerous athletes in top scoring positions, with several punching their tickets to the IHSAA State Finals. Regional Champions Christian Ortiz dominated the 400m dash, clocking an impressive 48.69 to win the event and earn his spot at the State Finals. The 4x400m relay team of Ortiz, Jaxson Wanza, Deacon Lewis, and Omar Elsayed stormed to victory in 3:22.56, securing the regional title and a place in the state meet. State Qualifiers Liam Powers placed 3rd in a loaded 3200m, running 9:09.88 to earn his place at State. Sam Long qualified in the 110m hurdles, finishing 3rd in 14.74, and added a 2nd place finish in the 300m hurdles (39.47), continuing his incredible postseason. The 4x800m relay of Will Henning, Omar Elsayed, Liam McNiven, and Tate Watson finished 4th in 7:55.79 and will advance under the IHSAA standard. Evan Senefeld took 3rd in the pole vault, clearing 14'3" to qualify for State. 🏅 Other Top Performances Deacon Lewis placed 5th in the 400m (49.69), adding valuable points. Mason Schmitz ran a strong 1:57.07 in the 800m to take 6th place. In the hurdles, Hadi Tebanja scored 1 point with his 8th place finish in the 300m hurdles (41.14). The 4x100m relay (Boyd, Weston, Wanza, Christopherson) placed 4th with a time of 42.65. Dylan James leapt to 4th in the long jump (21'4.75"). In the field, KJ Mallett (discus) and Chris Beck (high jump) both earned top-10 finishes, with Mallett throwing 139'4" and Beck clearing 5’10”. The Royals will be well-represented at the IHSAA State Finals. The team's speed, depth, and consistency continue to shine as they wrap up an impressive postseason run.
